The Race Goes On
Freightliner Run Smart℠ Hauler Challenge
The Freightliner Run Smart℠ Hauler Challenge came to an end during the October race weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The final four drivers, Glenn “Fireball” Shano of the #00 Hauler for Michael Waltrip Racing, Tom “Thumper” McCrimmon of the #20 Hauler for Joe Gibbs Racing, George “Hero” Larrabee of the #22 Hauler for Penske Racing, and Mike “Bama” Williams of the #83 Hauler for Red Bull Racing, put their skills to the test with the hope of claiming the $30,000 grand prize and the coveted Freightliner trophy.
The drivers showed up ready to compete on Pit Road and quickly saw that the course was one of the toughest they had ever seen. After tallying the scores, Shano and McCrimmon were tied, but it was McCrimmon that navigated the course with the faster speed putting the coveted trophy and $30,000 check in his hands.
Following McCrimmon, Shano placed second ($20,000), Larrabee third ($10,000) and Mike Williams fourth ($5,000). All four of the drivers were featured during the pre-race ceremonies where the checks and trophies were presented.

“This means everything to me because I have been competing in the Hauler Challenge since it began,” said McCrimmon. “To drive a Freightliner truck and win the challenge makes it that much more special.”
McCrimmon has worked hard to perfect his driving skills over the years, proving to be a valuable asset to his team, a fact that has not gone unnoticed by Joey Logano, driver of the #20 car for Joe Gibbs Racing.
“Thumper is a great driver who has been with me since my rookie year. It is nice to see guys like Thumper and the other truck drivers get recognized for their hard work,” said Logano.
Next year the hauler drivers will be back at it, competing in the 2012 Run Smart℠ Hauler Challenge. The event will kick off in Las Vegas and once again be open to all fulltime Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series hauler drivers.
